"Social Economy in Portraits" (Book, 2022)
The introduction of the book is written by Barbara Sadowska, a psychologist, co-founder, and chairperson of the Barka for Mutual Help Foundation, member of the international social innovators' association Ashoka (USA), social entrepreneur at the Klaus Schwab Foundation (Switzerland), and a board member of Barka (UK).
🍀 Social economy offers an alternative to traditional profit-driven capitalism, placing emphasis on empathy and social impact. After all, economics is a social science, which seems to be increasingly forgotten.
Together with Joanna Rubin, we wrote the book "Social Economy in Portraits". The book showcases the Barka for Mutual Help Foundation social enterprises that have emerged in Poland as places where one can begin to rebuild their life.
Social economy is an alternative economic model that prioritizes social impact and community well-being over purely profit-driven motives.
It promotes inclusive and sustainable business practices, empowering individuals and communities to address social challenges and create positive change.
The creators and leaders of social enterprises, as well as representatives of local governments, are the heroes of the book "Social Economy in Portraits".
We also gathered in the White Hall of the City Hall of Poznań to promote the publication.
The meeting was hosted by Leszek Waligóra, the deputy editor-in-chief of "Głos Wielkopolski", who skilfully posed questions allowed for a fresh perspective on everyday challenges, stereotypes we encounter in dealings with "big" business, as well as the laws and practices of local government authorities.
The book "Social Economy in Portraits" - stories of individuals shaping the social economy sector was a part of the Wielkopolskie Center for Solidarity Economy project, implemented by the Barka for Mutual Help Foundation and the City of Poznań.
